FAQs

What kind of photographer are you?

My style is laid back and fun, and my aim is to provide natural, high quality and artistic photos of your family. I call it Lifestyle Photography which is somewhere in the middle of traditional portraiture which is more posed, and documentary photography which isn’t posed at all. Which means that I will guide and pose you along the way, and then capture the genuine connection and emotion that unfolds in the pose so the end result is not stiff and boring but rather captures true expression and personalities.

These photographs will be an investment in your family history. Images from your session often tell a story, capturing a treasured moment in time. I do not try to make you look perfect, stiff, or unnatural. I am not after that "one" shot with everyone looking at the camera and smiling. Sure, I will try to get some with everyone looking and smiling, but I promise it will not feel stiff or forced. My aim is not only to craft a gallery of images that you love, but also for you to enjoy the experience!

Pretty much every session finishes with someone commenting 'that was fun!'. Children ask me to come home and have dinner with them (don't worry, I tactfully decline), and ask when they will see me again. My goal is not just to create gorgeous images, but equally to make sure you enjoy the experience of creating them together!

What about young kids who won't sit still or cooperate?

Don't worry. I never expect toddlers and young children to comply with instructions. Instead, I incorporate them into the session using games and silly prompts. Or, we let them do what they are happy doing (safely) and I capture what unfolds while instructing the parents.

I promise that your children will be so excited to spend time with you just loving on them and being silly with them. That is all you need to do. The rest I take care of. I adjust my style depending on your children's personalities and attention span.

I will also send you some further information on how to prepare children and your family for the session.

Where will my session be held?

I am a natural light, on location photographer.

Sunset sessions take place outdoors. Together we will pick the perfect location for your session.

Newborn sessions take place in your home.

Pop Ups take place at either an indoor or outdoor location depending on the time of year.

What time are the sesssions?

The most beautiful time of day for outdoor photos is golden hour at sunset. So we will schedule your family, maternity or couples session to commence 30 minutes before sunset and we shoot for roughly 45 minutes (up to 90 minutes for longer for extended family sessions). This is the time when you get that dreamy soft lighting. I know this timing isn't ideal with little ones, and I do have some suggestions for locations where we can get away with a slightly earlier time. Winter sunsets are a lot earlier so you will be home in time for your bedtime routine in the winter months.

If it's an overcast day or if we choose a location with lots of trees we can start a little earlier. We will discuss what location you would like your photoshoot to take place and then confirm the timing, but please note that my locations are mostly NOR. I'm happy to discuss any suitable SOR locations that you know of - I know of a couple down by the river which are lovely.

Newborn sessions take place mid-morning which is when the light is most suitable for in-home sessions. We can also do a family session at home - think baking a cake or cooking in the kitchen, reading books, and other family activities. This is an idea for families wanting to keep it simple and document at-home memories at this stage of life.

Pop-Up session times are earlier in the day to accommodate families who aren't in a season of life to make sunset work.

What do we wear?

I don’t have a client wardrobe but will provide some guidance on what to wear. My recommendation is always to be comfortable and to be yourself. No need to go out and buy new outfits (unless you want to!).

See this blog post here for more information.

How do I receive the gallery?

I will send you a final gallery within 4 weeks of your photoshoot. I will select the best images from your shoot and include all of these in your gallery. I guarantee a minimum of 50 hand-edited high resolution in your final gallery to choose from. I also have an online print store that you can order prints and products through if you would like.

How do I select which images to deliver? I look carefully at each and every image I capture at your session and select the best images. I am looking for images that represent me as an artist and your family, as each is unique.

How do packages work?

After I deliver your gallery to you through a secure online gallery-delivery platform, you select which package of high resolution images you would like. Please submit an enquiry below if you'd like to be sent further details about the package pricing.

I also offer print products a-la-carte through your gallery.

What if I don't want images of my family posted on social media?

That is absolutely fine, my clients' privacy always comes first.

Can I bring extended family members?

I'm happy to chat about this with you, just let me know. My listed pricing is for immediate family members only but I'm happy to offer extended family session pricing upon request.
